Happy Japan Week

I had a very good time with many people. On April 23rd, the
MFWI Family Festival was held in Commons and students from Mukogawa women's university introduced Japanese culture to many Americans, for example, yukata dressing, flower arrangement, Japanese songs and so on. I taught calligraphy to Americans for about one hour. I was looking forward to this day because I could meet many Americans who have interest in Japan. First of all, my friends and I prepared tools for calligraphy, for example, brushes, China ink, ink stones and so on. After that, I waited for the Family Festival to start and I was excited.

I really enjoyed teaching calligraphy to many Americans. At three o'clock, the Family Festival started and people of all ages came there. I was in trouble at the beginning of the festival because I didn't know how to teach calligraphy but I could understand the way of teaching bit by bit. Many people asked us about their name in Japanese. Japanese can represent three different forms and they each are called hiragane, katakana and kanji. Most people liked kanji so I wrote their name in kanji. I was delighted to see their serious faces and smiles while they were writing the kanji. Some people who came thre had known Japanese words, for example, ninja, Osaka, sakura and so on. They wrote them in kanji very well. I enjoyed writing Japanese, talking English to them and teaching them calligraphy.

I had a great time at the festival. I was astonished that many people came there and I was shocked that they sometimes know about Japan more than me. I'm studying English but I should know about Japanese culture. I was happy to notice the importance of Japan!
