Welcome Girl Scouts

On March 8th, I took part in the Girl Scouts Volunteer program at the Japan Culture Center in MFWI. In this program, student volunteers teach Girl Scouts Japanese culture and play with them. There four sections; yukata section,Origami section, calligraphy section and Hinamaturi exhibition tour, so we divided ourselves into four groups with three people in each group. My part was teaching Girl Scouts how to fold origami. We discussed what to make, and decided to make hats from newspapers and to make balloons from origami. It is easy for me to make them and for the children. We practiced making them again and again. We were looking forward to make them with Girl Scouts.

At beginning of this event, about forty Girl Scouts and their parents came. I was surprised at this number. The children were so cute. I thought I want to get along with everyone. At first, we sang the Hinamaturi songs and introduced ourselves. After that, we divided into our groups and started to teach how to fold origami. While I was making balloon from origami, I taught the children how to do. Sometimes I couldn’t understand what they said, and we were confused. However, the children were really kind. They always try to understand what I want to say.

I really enjoyed this event. When we made hats from newspapers, the children each put own their own hat at once. They seemed to be pleased very much. Their smiles made me happy again and again. It was difficult for me to teach how to fold origami, but I was really excited about playing with the children. Today was a wonderful day!!!
