Enjoy home stay!! by Shihori
From Friday to Sunday, I went to homestay. It was the first homestay for me and my host family so we were a little nervous with each other. However, when we met in two weeks, I was very happy! On the first night, we talked about many things with them. Our host parents showed us their pictures of when they were young. I was surprised that they have many brothers and sisters. We also showed them our pictures and told about our families. The next day, we went to see a film. I don't remember the title, but it was funny and exciting. Before watching, I worried about watching without subtitles. However, it was a kids' movie, so I enjoyed it very much. This movie was $1 or less because every week these movies are released for families who have children. I think it's a good idea to spend time with family on weekends. After that, we made Japanese food for dinner. We made three-colors donburi and rice-cakes. We began at 4:30 because they usually eat dinner at 6:00. However, cooking was so hard that we finished cooking at almost 7:00. The children seemed not to like it, but parents ate it eagerly. It rewarded us for our efforts. I felt it was difficult to eat different food, but I was glad to give them a chance to experience Japanese food. On the last day, we went to eat a Kosher dinner. It is prepared according to Jewish law. I had never heard the word "kosher," so I felt a little anxiety, but I looked forward to going to a church. Singers and performers played on the stage. Next door, we ate the kosher dinner. I met a woman who was a teacher at MFWI in the past. Not only her but also other people were kind and friendly. After we went back home, we held a birthday party for their son. This time, 24 people gathered. In Japan I had held a birthday party when I was young, but it was only with my family. My cousin and grandparents never came. Therefore, I was surprised at the number of people. When I went back to my dormitory, I was very sad. I enjoyed this home stay enormously. I felt the importance of a once-in-a-lifetime chance. If I have a chance, I want to stay at this home again!! I miss them very much. I love my host family.
