Culture Observation -Easter day-

I went to do homestay in host family's house. Then I entered their room. I think a lot of rabbit mascots and chick mascots and a lot of colorful eggs have in their room. I asked my host mother. "Why are there many mascots in their room? What do their animals express?" My host mother answered. " This mascot expresss Easter day. The Easter day means this holiday celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Easter baskets are shaped in the form of a bird's nest . The egg is a symbol of new life. The Easter grass in the baskets represents new grass and all plants growing as spring approaches. Because many animals bear their young in the spring time , we have adopted the bunny and the chick as symbols of the Easter season. "


A lot of American people are Christian. So, they celebrate Easter day. I can understand Easter symbol of many animals and a egg and flower and candle mean springtime. I thought that these days are not celebrated in Japan because Japanese are almost all non-Christian. I felt religion difference. But I think celebrating the coming of spring is a good idea, and I feel happy.
